USA Has Been Subject to War to The Industrial Revolution Discussion

Description

  • For your argument essay, you will need to bring together the sources you have read along with the sources you will gather to investigate some part of what it means to be a part of American society. You will need to “join the conversation” in progress from the sources you used for your Literature Review by writing an argumentative essay in which you use the sources from the literature review to analyze a piece of American culture (a piece of art, music video, text, monument, podcast, etc.). After you decide what artifact you would like to analyze, you will also incorporate the direct analysis of another author into your paper. This assignment will help you practice the skills necessary for analyzing that artifact or “text.”This assignment will help you choose an artifact to analyze. Follow the directions below to complete each step of the assignment. (I suggest doing this activity freehand rather than typing on a computer, so then photograph your steps as you go, put the images into one document, and then convert that document to a PDF to upload to Canvas.)Step 1: Set a timer for two minutes and simply list everything that interests you already or that you would be curious to think more about. Everything–not just for this class.Step 2: Review your list and pick five topics that most appeal to you and seem to work best with the topics of the argument essay assignment.Step 3: For each of those five topics, make a list of artifacts you could examine related to that topic. Try to be as specific as possible at this point but without stressing to look stuff up.Step 4: Whittle your list of five topics down to two that most appeal to you and seem most feasible. Do a little research if needed at this point to add specific examples of artifacts within each topic.Step 5: Next, decide a specific artifact for each of your top two topics that you could analyze and make a concept map (a.k.a. idea web) for each artifact that connects that artifact to ideas from the class–your previous essays or classmates’ ideas, class discussion, other readings/sources, guiding questions from the argument essay assignment, and anything else relevant. (If you need to learn about making concept maps, consult this video tutorial.)Step 6: Now, review your two concept maps and decide the one artifact you will analyze, but know that if you need, you already have another idea ready to use and have other thoughts you could develop into artifacts as needed.Step 7: Finally, look up three sources that also talk about your artifact in a meaningful way (e.g., a long magazine piece vs. someone’s YouTube comment). After skimming them, decide on the one source you want to work on within your final essay.(my literature review is dragged here, please check it)after you finish it answer the following questions:1-Which two final artifacts were you interested in?2-What were the pros and cons of using each artifact in your essay and why did you decide to pick the one you did in the end?3-List the three sources (including at least author, title, and year) you considered.4-What were the pros and cons of using each source in your essay and why did you decide to pick the one you did in the end?
