SMC The Holistic Philosophy of Health and Medication Essay
Description
STUDY HYPOTHESIS /What are they testing? e.g., The study tests the hypothesis that exercise decreases symptoms of depression and thus the more exercise performed the lower the depression symptom level.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE/The thing they think influences the other thing e.g., Amount of exercise performed
DEPENDENT VARIABLE The thing they think is influenced by the independent variable e.g., Symptoms of depression as measured by the BDI-II assessment tool
HOW THE STUDY TESTED HYPOTHESIS what did they do? e.g., The study split participants in to four groups and measured their depression symptoms using the BDI-II measure. Each group then completed a 4-week program of exercise with group 1 only exercising once per week, group 2 exercising twice a week, group 3 exercising three times a week and group 4 exercising 5 times a week. At the end of the 4-week program participant depression symptoms were again measured on the BDI-II scale and any differences in score, noted.
STUDY FINDINGS/what were the results? e.g., The study found that participants who exercised more times a week, showed a larger decrease in depression symptoms score, than those that exercised less frequently.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS STUDY e.g., Were there any differences between how the groups performed their exercise that could be responsible for the change in depression symptoms, such as type of exercise or if the groups exercised together or as individuals
IF YOU WERE TO DO ANOTHER STUDY RELATED TO THIS, WHAT QUESTION WOULD YOU EXPLORE? e.g., Does exercising with others improve mood more than exercising alone?
