San Diego State University The Member of the Wedding Essay
Description
The question is based on the book “The Member of the Wedding”
Prompt:
Why does Frankie or F. Jasmine imagine herself to be an outlaw (there are countless examples weve discussed of how she does this, including by name-changing and nature-changing, knife-throwing and drinking, attempted murder of the rapist soldier), and what does this say about the laws she wants to be outside of? How does she symbolically try and kill them, and why does she SEEM to conform at the end? Dont necessarily think of literal laws (as in Loving or as in Butlers novel, where it was legal to own and dehumanize human beings) but instead of laws as norms, as regulatory behavioral norms.
