Miami Dade College Week 1 Overcoming Barriers to Use of EBP Discussion
Description
Week 1:
- The focus this week is to practice, practice, practice writing a Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Time (PICOT) question, so it becomes second nature. By honing skills in writing a PICOT question, the clinical/administrative issue will be well defined and the search for evidence will be more successful. Each component of the PICOT question must be clearly articulated.
Please post a short introduction on the board to the professor and classmates
- Formulate a PICOT question using the intervention format found in Box 2.2 on page 44 of the textbook
- Each of the three replies to classmates should be a critique of the structure of the PICOT question. Is it in the correct PICOT format? Is the question specific enough? Is the patient population-specific? Is the intervention a nursing intervention? Are there too many outcomes? Does the question make sense? Provide colleagues with suggestions on how to improve the PICOT question. No medical interventions! The faculty will provide the final approval.
- Discuss one (1) strategy a masters prepared nurse could do to cultivate a spirit of inquiry to overcome barriers from colleagues who are resistant in pursuing an evidence-based process.
