Case Study 4: Sexual Assault/Rape. The case study is about a lesbian couple living together. One of them called against the partner for rape (domestic violence). When the human servicer professional practitioner (HSPP) got there, she witnessed a dirty house with rodents dropping in site and a child that appeared to be very small for his age.

The biological mother and her three children have tried to decrease upsetting them by letting her partner abuse her in the evening, and early morning, so the children won’t see or hear the abuse. The mother of three left but came back because the abuser promised to change. The six-year-old middle child had become unhappy after a recent physical confrontation that sent the biological mom to the hospital for a few days due to being sodomized by the abuser.

The abuser speaks to the police and HSPP and does not allow the victim to speak. So now the police and the worker want s to talk to the victim alone. The HSPP writes down the living condition and the bruising she sees on the victim’s body. The HSPP also sees a foreclosure sign in the home and some empty bottles of alcohol. They are checked in the system, and the HSPP sees no history of violence on either partner.

Applying a Recovery-Oriented Perspective to a Community Crisis
