Blog posts must be a minimum of 1200 words and include at least one image, either one you have created or one you have found. Blog Posts should be Word Documents double spaced in 11- or 12-point font. You should include a title that is different from your text’s title. Also, please put your name at the top of the first page. CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Create a four-panel comic focusing on a significant sequence of images, ideas, or events in Butler’s Dawn. You can either draw it by hand or use digital tools. Then, write at least 1200 words about your process of creating the comic in relation to the novel. Why did you choose to focus on what you did? What meanings in the story were you trying to highlight? How did the choices you made about what to represent in the comic connect to those meanings? Analyze specific details or short quotes from the novel in relation to your comic, using examples to flesh out your discussion of what’s important in the novel. Take a photo or a screen shot of the comic and upload the file as an attachment.
2. Rewrite one of the key scenes in Dawn from an alien point of view. Based on what you have learned about the Oankali over the course of the novel, construct a plausible scene of 1200 words or more filtered though an alien POV. as a way of illuminating Butler’s imaginings of aliens as well as her estranging of human norms.
3. If you were an historian from the future trying to understand what Afrofuturism was in the 1980s and 1990s, how would you explain it using at least two quotes, details, or scenes from The Last Angel of History and three sentences, passages, details, or scenes from Butler’s novel Dawn? What connections can you see between the two texts? What ideas from this 1995 moment the documentary represents help us understand Dawn? Are there elements of Dawn that connect to aspects of the film that either help us understand the film better or that complicate or expand upon ideas in the film? You need not answer all these questions but make sure you come up with a logic that connects the two texts in multiple ways in your Blog Post.
