Mariam Ramzi English 124 Kim Lenox 8 May 2022 Topic: The Dangers of Silence Carroll, Seforosa. “Speaking Up! Speaking Out! Naming the silences.” Contemporary Feminist Theologies, 2021, pp. 9-20. Seforosa Carroll is a research fellow with the Contextual and Public Theology Research Centre and a Visiting Lecturer at the School of Theology (North Parramatta Campus), Charles Sturt University. The author, Carroll Seforosa, explores the role of Christian theology in exploiting feminism and feminist theory. Carrol talks about gender-based violence and its impact on society. She introduces the concept of Speaking Up and Speaking Out as a way to seek the freedom and liberation of all within the household. The book looks into ways to introduce new feminist theologies that counter the feminist challenges and critiques. It also talks about the imbalances of power and authority when it comes to race and gender. Contemporary Feminist Theologies should protect women against the challenges imposed on them by society. Gender-based violence is now protected by human rights laws. Doyle, Roddy. “Women, Violence, and Silence: Roddy Doyle’s The Woman Who Walked Into Doors.” Silence in Modern Irish Literature, 2017, pp. 122-132. Roddy examines the interplay of voice and silence in his novel “The Woman Who Walked Into Doors.” The author exhibits the marital issues incorporating marital rape, domestic violence, and hushed-up abuses in society. She shows the world what women pass through in silence while married and uses it as a voice to stop the oppression. Society knows what women pass through in silence, but everybody keeps quiet about the abuses. Furthermore, it analyses how the structures of a patriarchal society silence the violence, marginalization, and exploitation of women. The author uses Ireland’s code of silence in the 1960s–1990s to exploit the topic. Doyle employs stylistic and narrative brilliance to portray female exploitation and domestic violence as political, ethical, and social issues in the novel. DUAN, Jinyun, and Caiyun Huang. “The Mechanism of Employee’s Sense of Power on Speaking-up: A Power Cognition Perspective.” Acta Psychologica Sinica, vol. 45, no. 2, 2013, pp. 217-230. DUAN, Jinyun, and Caiyun Huang use their book, “The Mechanism of Employee’s Sense of Power on Speaking-up: A Power Cognition Perspective” to express authoritarian leadership and employee silence in the Chinese setting. They show the importance of employees’ voices in shaping the progress of an organization. Furthermore, it expounds that allowing employees to speak up is beneficial to the practice of management and recruitment of civil servants. The book exploits the liaison between employees’ sense of power and speaking-up behavior. It shows that when an organization improves the employee’s sense of power, the probability of speaking-up behavior increases. The increase in speaking up behavior improves employees’ psychological availability and cognitive flexibility. The Chinese duo shows explicit work on the employee’s sense of power in speaking up and opens the organization’s eyes to its importance.
