California State University Northridge Federalism Discussion
Description
After reading about the different types of Federalism, which model of federalism do you think works best for the United States? Why?
would you please reply to these two posts with a few sentences.
1-Federalism means that the power is divided between a national and government and a state or provincial governments. Federal and state governments have the power to tax.
Why the States has the power of federalism?
Americans fought the Revolutionary War to gain independence from Britain. The former 13 colonies became 13 independent states. States were concerned about losing power to other states. Other states were also concerned about losing their power to the national government however many Americans realized they needed a central government strong enough to unite the country.
Federalism was a compromise federalism that provides some power to the national government in Washington DC and other powers belong to each of the states.
2-There are three types of Federalism, Dual, Cooperative and New. Dual federalism is a government structure in which the federal and state governments act independently. Cooperative federalism is an interstate relations system that recognizes the need for federal and state governments to share authority equally in order to cooperatively address shared, often important problems. The goal of new federalism is to give states back some of the power and autonomy they have previously lost. In my opinion all Federalism types have done justice to the united States. In my opinion the one that works the best is cooperative Federalism. This is because the power is shared equally ensuring the best decisions will be made. This makes for a strong central government.
Because of federalism there are both federal and state legal systems in the US. That’s why there are both federal and state courts.
