BIO 100 San Diego State University Biology Presentation
Description
Begin by thinking about what topics have interested you in Biology and deciding if you would like to learn more about it. Your topic can be related to Diseases, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, the Immune System, Neuroscience, or a biological phenomena you are curious about, cancer, animal adaptations, body disorders, functions of the brain, cloning, or genetics. The choice of topics is endless. Here are some topics that previous student groups have presented on:
Examples of Topics: Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism, Cloning, Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, Albinism, The Salton Sea & The Effects on the Respiratory System, Effects of Marijuana on the body, Cancer, Sickle Cell Disease, Viruses (pick a specific virus), HIV/AIDS, Leukemia, Bone Cancer, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, melanoma, Autism, infertility in men and women, Effects of COVID-19 on nutrition, etc…
Your presentation should last 10-15 minutes and include a PowerPoint/Google slide program. Your slide show should show creativity and enhance your presentation not just be text that you read. How you structure the presentation is up to you. As long as it makes sense and is focused, you are on the right track. Work needs to be divided equally. Everyone in the group must participate and have a chance to present. That means I should hear everyone’s voice. However, you do not need to show your face. You will need to coordinate a time to record with your group. Recording via Zoom will be the easiest way to do this. Although there are other ways around this.
You may use Zoom or Pronto or any other presentation/recording tool that allows you to record as a group and submit in Canvas (as an mp4). I prefer that you submit as mp4 so that it makes sharing with the class easier. You will upload the mp4 to Canvas in the Assignment created for the Project. Please make sure the first slide lists all group members that participated and use that time for everyone to introduce themselves. The last slide(s) should include all the citations in the format required below. See rubric for more guidance.
Grading will be based on:
- your knowledge of the subject
- the quantity, quality & effectiveness of your slides
- overall effort and creativity
- length of presentation
- meeting the required deadlines (ie. topic approval deadline, submission deadline, and any others related to the project. Late Policy applies)
- references & citations
A minimum of 5 references must be used, and they cannot all be websites.
Your last slide on the Presentation should include all your references, cited in the format below.
