The organization I currently work for is running a multi-operational EHR that spans from one facility to the other four facilities. If I could design my own EHR, I would remove some of the features that don’t work with my work. There is a lot of information in the EPIC, and I know it is necessary due to the patient care team. Even though I only write my notes and do a little charting on the patients, I sometimes get distracted from all the other information surrounding my main focus. There is so much going on with the pages that there is clutter. I can’t hide it or put what I need in a folder. If there were a way to hide certain information would be a plus for me.
Thoughts? Is this a possibility for an EHR?

If you could design your own EHR, what would you add or subtract from what you currently know/have experienced regarding EHR functionality? Why?
Electronic health records have many benefits, and it has impacted the healthcare industry in a major way. EHR has made it quicker and easier to access valuable patient data, which helps providers deliver better quality care. However, just like with any other technology, there is always room for improvement. If I could design my own EHR, I would mainly concentrate on improving interoperability, cybersecurity issues, and simplifying the system. Having an interoperable health information system is vital to caring for patients efficiently. Integrating and collaborating between multiple health organizations effortlessly helps with decision-making efforts and allows providers to provide the best possible care in each situation based on real-time patient data. Future EHRs cannot be seen as applications alone but as broad care coordination platforms that must allow dynamic business models to accommodate a great deal of uncertainty and flexibility, especially concerning legal boundaries (Shah, 2012). Cybersecurity has long been an issue that continuously requires attention. I would look into data breaches and software glitches to avoid hackers and other security flaws. Last but least, I would try to make my system user-friendly. Simplicity is key when it comes to learning a new system. Physicians are very busy, and they don’t have any time to waste trying to figure out challenging software.
