Bipolar disorder is a disease that affects not only the individual but also their family and friends. Living with someone who has bipolar disorder usually entails learning to manage with the challenges that symptoms can bring, as well as supporting and coping with the person who is unwell. It can be very overwhelming for both the person and the people in their surroundings. Bipolar disorder illness can extend over a period of time of at least 2 weeks at a time. This time usually consists of poor energy, sorrow, or irritability.
