MTSU Crew Resource Management in Aviation Questions
Question Description
I’m working on a aerospace engineering question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
1/ Effective teamwork requires good conflict-resolution skills. One of the key conflict-resolution skills involves focusing on “what” is right, rather than “who” is right. Construct a simple scenario of a disagreement that can occur between a captain and first officer and describe how using the key conflict-resolution skill of focusing on the “what” rather than the “who” would work in your scenario.
2/ Regarding situational awareness, one point that was stressed in class was the fact that a pilot should always their “gut” feelings or intuition if something doesn’t look or feel right. Discuss why this concept is important and include the underlying theory as to why “gut feelings and intuitions are often correct.
3/ Making sound decisions is critical to the safety of any flight. How can a pilot know if they are making a good decision at the time they are making it? Use the simple scenario you created in the question regarding conflict-resolution above and list one possible decision the crew could make. How can you know if that decision is a good decision?
4/ The communication process is vital to CRM. Sometimes the process can be interrupted. Define BOTH a communication barrier and a communication filter. Describe the difference between a barrier and a filter. Give one example of a barrier and one example of a filter.
