CSIS 120 Penn Foster College Restore Points Discussion
Description
Microsoft bundles several user tools designed to help you recover from catastrophic hardware failures – aka hard drive crashes. Disk drive imaging backs up everything on the system and is the most complete type of system backup solution. Of course, these solutions only work if they are performed before the hardware failure occurs. The same is true of Restore Points, a tool designed to take snapshots of system files and more.
This week, choose one of the two discussion questions below. Respond in your own words.
If you have used Restore Point..continue by reading and answering Question 1 ONLY.
If you’ve never used Restore Point..continue by reading and answering Question 2 ONLY.
Q1. In this week’s Module assignments, you learned about using Restore Points as a tool to recover from Windows failing to boot. Have you ever used a restore point yourself? If so, explain the problem you were having and how using a Restore Point fixed/failed to solve the problem.
Q2. If you haven’t used Restore Points consider using it before your next software installation. If the installation fails your Restore Point may provide for a stable recovery of your O/S. Do you know the steps necessary to create a Restore Point? Identify your Windows O/S version and the steps needed to create a Restore Point. Include information on how often you would create a Restore Point and where you would store the RP – locally or on a removable/network storage device.
