In a Microsoft Word document, answer the following questions:
- Define the following terms: endogenous, exogenous, idiopathic, iatrogenic, nosocomial, diagnosis, prognosis, mortality, morbidity, incidence, and prevalence.
- Categorize each as either a sign or a symptom of disease: pain, rectal bleeding, malaise, fever, and hives. Be sure to include an explanation for your answer (i.e. How did you come to the conclusion that it was a sign or a symptom).
Choose one acute disease and one chronic disease (either from Chapter 2 or one in which you have an interest). Answer the following questions regarding the disease:
- Name of the disease.
- Etiology of the disease.
- Typical signs and symptoms of the disease.
Pathogenesis of the disease.
- Common test and treatments for the disease.
- Describe the use of the following diagnostic tools: complete blood count, computed tomography, biopsy, fine-needle aspiration, magnetic resonance imaging, palpation, Pap smear, position emission tomography, and ultrasound.
- Using Table 3-1 in your text, which screening test(s) would be the most effective to diagnose a male patient that is having trouble urinating, has experienced sudden and dramatic weight loss, and is extremely fatigued. Be sure to provide an explanation why you would choose each screening tool.
