- 1 one of them says – MARCOS – Water is essential for all life forms. Sometimes we get caught up with life that we forget that water has many impacts on our bodies and nature like water polarity. The polarity of water is responsible for effectively dissolving other polar molecules, such as sugars and ionic compounds such as salt. This is important for all living things on earth. Plus, water polarity in nature has a positive and negative charge to help dissolved matter in water nature. Life is evolved around water. As water has many great purposes like its great solvent. For example, substances like living organisms, proteins, DNA and polysaccharides, are dissolved in water. Water also great dissolves for many gases, as oxygen and carbon dioxide. Which impacts in living things. Water has high heat of vaporization which benefits all life forms and essential. As the water evaporates, energy is taken up by the process, cooling the environment where the evaporation is taking place. In many living organisms, including humans, the evaporation of sweat, which is 90 percent water, allows the organism to cool so that homeostasis of body temperature can be maintained( https://bio.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Introductory_and_General_Biology/Book%3A_General_Biology_(Boundless)/02%3A_The_Chemical_Foundation_of_Life/2.2%3A_Water/2.2C%3A_Waters_Heat_of_Vaporization#:~:text=The%20LibreTexts%20libraries,libretexts.org.).
- 2 and another of the classmates says – MEGAN – Three water properties that are essential to life include water’s high specific heat capacity, its ability to expand when frozen, and its attraction to polar molecules. The first property, high specific heat, “refers to the amount of energy that is absorbed or lost by one gram of a specific substance to change the temperature by 1 degree celsius.” ?irjak, A. (2020, May 11). 5 unique properties of water. WorldAtlas. Retrieved May 18, 2022, from https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/5-unique-properties-of-water.html (Links to an external site.). This is essential to life because it allows for water to resist changes in temperature, thus maintaining a stable environment for any organisms that may live inside/near it, such as fish, coral, and other sea creatures. Water is able to exist in a liquid state for most of the year, except for during winter when it starts to freeze. Alongside this, large bodies of water regulate the temperature in the city around it, as it stores heat and releases it throughout the year. The second property, the ability to expand when frozen, allows water to become less dense as it freezes. This is essential to life during the winter time because the frozen/less dense water exists at the top of the body of water, thus insulating the water below, allowing marine life to remain in a stable environment without becoming frozen inside. The water below the ice is warm enough for the sea life to survive inside. The last water property is its attraction to polar molecules. This means that water is attracted to water, otherwise known as cohesion. This cohesion is what helps the transport of water against gravity in plants, allowing them to survive. Cohesion also allows for small creatures, like insects, to walk across the surface of a body of water.
